Renovating Your Property – Q&A with Caroline W
Renovating a home or investment property can be quiet daunting and stressful. Trust us, we have the experience. Having just completed a total renovation of a local investment property, we chat to a Chapman Property client with first-hand renovation experience; Caroline Walters.

Our property was in its original condition since it was purchased new in 1981. Over the years there had been a problem with a leak in the bathroom upstairs. Several attempts had been made to patch up the problem and paint over the kitchen ceiling but nobody actually investigated the problem thoroughly and each time it seemed that it was patched up to look okay temporarily. I felt relieved when we were in a position to undertake thorough renovations throughout the whole property and it was found that the waterproofing membrane in the bathroom had failed so no amount of patching was going to rectify the problem for any length of time. It is wonderful now that the work is professionally completed by licensed tradesmen and is under warranty.
“Colin and his team of tradesmen are wonderful to work with. I would advise anybody about to undertake renovations, to just leave everything in his hands and sit back and relax.“

For my part, the whole renovation was effortless. I remained in Sydney throughout the entire process, making all arrangements over the phone and using the internet for before and after photos, as well as being able to check the license numbers of tradesmen used and speak to them in person if I wished. I was supplied with all plans, quotes, and invoices, and able to make payments using the method that best suited me which was mostly by direct transfers to the trades’ bank accounts. Everyone who has ever renovated will realize that they cannot accurately predict a deadline as tradesmen depend on being able to follow each other sequentially and the availability of materials, the weather etc all affect the timeframe.

I was worried that I would need to make endless trips between Sydney and Newcastle to review all aspect of the renovation. As it turned out, my concerns were unnecessary as I was able to talk on the phone whenever I felt the need, even to the point of colour selection and materials used.
